I cannot hear anything in the handset

Check physical connections between the handset and the desk phone. Verify that the cable connecting the two is firmly plugged in and does not wiggle too freely.

Verify the phone cable is plugged in to the proper handset port on the back of the phone (and not the headset port).

Check the cable for kinks, tears, or unusual wear. Replace the cable if any of these are present.

Turn up the device's volume while on an active call.
